A commercial storage system is not a bigger home battery. Businesses have higher power levels, more complex load profiles, larger PV systems, e-mobility, grid connection limits, load peaks and, in some cases, backup power requirements.
In peak shaving, the storage system delivers energy exactly when the business briefly needs high power. This reduces the maximum power drawn from the grid.
Many customers believe that every battery storage system automatically provides emergency power. That is not true. Backup power requires transfer, grid disconnection, protection systems, defined loads and a suitable operating strategy.
In practice, charging infrastructure usually fails not at the charging station but at the grid connection. Several charging points or DC chargers create very high short-term power demand.
